The Crane is commonly referred to as a
"Gantry Crane" however it is also known as a "Portal Crane". The original crane
dates back to the 1940's when it was used in Germany for U-boat fabrication. The
crane was highly overbuilt for its capacity, using considerably more steel than
current engineering design would dictate.
Russell Metals hired INDOC to dismantle and remove the crane
in exchange for its salvage value. In November 2009, INDOC dismantled the crane.
With intimate knowledge of the condition, and recognizing its value, INDOC
transported it to their corporate facility in Dalmeny, SK.
